Use one of the opening tools to cut a vertical or perpendicular opening in a roof floor or ceiling for example to accommodate a chimney.

I cant seem to select the hole to remove it.
You can cut openings in the faces of these elements or you can select the entire element to make a vertical cut.

Select the object to be cut.
Open the revit family with unattached voids and click create tab properties panel family category and parameters.
If anyone is still looking for a solution you can make a roof cut into an existing roof using component model in place.
When i erase the dormer walls and roof i have the hole in my roof where the dormer was located.
This should keep you existing roof in tact and show a cut in the new construction phase.

Create a void extrusion and make to required cut in the new construction phase apply the cut and done.
Click modify tab geometry panel cut drop down cut geometry.
I was hoping to make a tight perforated pattern so i set my circle size and spacing to 1 16 but while the circle may be the correct size though i doubt it the spacing between them is a lot larger than what i specified.

I placed two dormers in a gable roof and used the dormer opening tool to cut out the roof at the dormers.
